2010 Skywarn Class

2010 SEVERE WEATHER SPOTTER CLASS OFFERED

As in past years, a severe weather spotter training class will be open to the general public for the information of residents and visitors in the area of the Nature Coast. The instructor will be Dan Noah, the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Ruskin, FL. Topics to be discussed include cloud formations, hurricanes, tornadoes, water spouts, flooding, thunderstorms, lightning, and other potentially dangerous weather conditions. Sponsored by the Spring Hill Amateur Radio Club (SHARC), the course is provided at no charge to hams and non-hams alike, and there is no time or membership commitment or follow-up required of the participants.

This year the SKYWARN Weather Spotter class will be held on Wednesday May 19th at 7:00 PM at the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Building on Shoal Line Boulevard at 4340 Calienta St., Hernando Beach FL 34607. There is no charge to attend the class, but pre-registration before May 18 is required by e-mail or phone. Attending the class can certify you as an Advanced SKYWARN Spotter, which is good for 3 years. Please be on time for the start of the class, which will last about 2 hours. Participants will be given handouts, but are requested to bring a pen so they can take notes. Refreshments will be provided by SHARC. Certificates of Completion will be mailed to successful participants by the National Weather Service Office in Ruskin a few weeks after the class.

Thanks to Dan Noah, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service's Ruskin office, and to Paul Pelletier, Commander of the local USCG Flotilla, for making this class possible again this year.
